Seven TLS from Elaine Goodale Eastman to H. M. Hitchcock dated June 10-November 17, 1935, regarding her research on the Sioux in Minnesota, her opinions on contemporary Indian issues, and the Eastman family; and a TLS carbon from Hitchcock to Eastman dated June 24, 1935, written in response to Eastman's first letter. With the correspondence is a typed poem, "The Truce (Fort Snelling, Minnesota 1839)" and the first page of an article from the October 31, 1935 issue of The Christian Advocate on Indian "pageants," both by Eastman; a printed pamphlet on St. John's William Welsh Memorial School for Girls on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation, which contains a quote by Eastman; and three photographic prints of Dr. Charles Eastman, his father Jacob, and his mother, Nancy Eastman, daughter of army officer Seth Eastman. Descriptive manuscript notes by Louise Stegner, H. M. Hitchcock's niece, accompany the material.
